Milk the Way Nature Intended

When milk leaves our farm in a glass jar, it carries everything nature put into it — nothing pasteurised away, nothing homogenised out. Our A2A2 cows produce milk with the original beta-casein protein that many people find far easier to digest than conventional dairy.

A2A2 Protein

Every cow in our herd is tested and certified A2A2 — the original milk protein that many find gentler on digestion.

Cream-Top Richness

Non-homogenised milk means the cream naturally rises — shake or spoon it off for coffee, butter, or enjoy as nature made it.

Glass Jar Delivery

Every half-gallon is bottled fresh in reusable glass jars — no plastic, no BPA, just clean and sustainable packaging.

Pasture-Raised

Our cows roam the wide plains of SE Colorado, grazing on natural grasses year-round and supplemented with clean hay in winter.

Well-Fed & Well-Loved

Happy cows make great milk. We believe animal welfare isn't optional — it's the foundation of everything we produce at Karisa & Kritters.

SE Colorado Roots

We're a small family farm born from a love of real food and rural life. Our community comes first — that's why we bring milk to you every week.

Our Story

A small family farm rooted in the plains of SE Colorado, built on the belief that real food starts with happy animals.

From a Love of Animals to a Calling

Karisa & Kritters, LLC was founded in January 2025 at 9569 US Highway 385, Sheridan Lake, Colorado — a stretch of wide, open high-plains country where the horizon feels endless and the sky touches the earth. The farm is the life project of Karisa Hope Splitter, whose passion for animals, honest farming, and real food has been the heartbeat of everything we do.

Growing up in rural Colorado, Karisa developed a deep respect for the land and the creatures on it. She witnessed firsthand how industrial food systems had stripped raw ingredients of their nutrition, flavour, and integrity. She made a decision: she would farm the old way — slowly, carefully, and with genuine love for every animal in her care.

Today, Karisa & Kritters operates a certified A2A2 raw milk herdshare serving the communities of SE Colorado. Our cream-top milk is bottled fresh each week into reusable half-gallon glass jars and delivered to drop locations across the region — including Eads, Cheyenne Wells, Burlington, La Junta, and Springfield. Every jar tells the same story: well-fed cows, clean practices, and milk the way it used to taste.

The name says it all. "Karisa" is the farmer — present, caring, and accountable. "Kritters" is every animal on this land, loved not as a production unit but as a living being deserving respect, space, and good grass under their hooves.

Cows grazing on the Colorado plains

The Stars of the Show

Our cows are the very centre of Karisa & Kritters. We select breeds known for rich, high-butterfat milk and gentle temperaments. Every animal is tested and certified A2A2 before joining the herd — because that's a promise we make to every member of our herdshare community.

Breed

Heritage Dairy Breeds

We favour heritage breeds like Jersey and Guernsey — renowned for producing naturally rich, golden milk with high butterfat content and a luxurious cream layer. These breeds have been valued for centuries for good reason.

Pasture grazing
Lifestyle

Open Pasture, Always

Our cows live outdoors year-round on the Colorado plains, rotationally grazed across clean pastures. In winter, they are supplemented with local alfalfa hay and free-choice mineral blocks to ensure optimal health and milk quality.

Clean milk quality
Standards

No Hormones, No Antibiotics

We never use synthetic hormones or routine antibiotics in our herd. Animal health is managed through excellent nutrition, low-stress handling, and preventive care. If a cow ever needs treatment, she is removed from milk production until fully recovered.

Our Mission & Values

At Karisa & Kritters, we believe that the most important food decisions happen long before anything reaches your table. Our mission is to make nutrient-dense, honest dairy accessible to the families of SE Colorado — one half-gallon glass jar at a time. Every decision we make on this farm flows from four core values.

Radical Transparency

We tell you exactly what goes into our milk — what our cows eat, how they live, and how we handle every jar. No secrets, no marketing fluff. Just honest dairy.

Animal Welfare First

Our cows are not machinery. They are living beings whose comfort, health, and happiness are non-negotiable. When the animals thrive, the milk is extraordinary.

Community-Centred

We built this farm for SE Colorado. From Eads to Burlington to La Junta, our weekly drops bring real food close to home for rural families who deserve better than a grocery shelf.

Sustainable Stewardship

We manage our land for the long term — rotational grazing, minimal chemical inputs, and reusable glass packaging. Good farming today means better land tomorrow.

Karisa Hope Splitter

Karisa grew up in Kiowa County — the same wide-sky country where Karisa & Kritters now calls home. Her childhood was spent around animals, learning from neighbours how to feed, care for, and respect livestock. After years of researching nutrition, raw milk science, and sustainable farm management, she formalised her passion into a business in January 2025.

She manages every aspect of the farm — from milking and bottling to customer communications and weekly drop logistics. If you call 720-274-6569 or email allin@karisakritters.us, you'll be talking to Karisa directly. That direct connection between farmer and family is something she will never outsource.

Karisa genuinely believes that food is medicine, and that the quality of what we put into our bodies begins long before the kitchen. Her farm is her life's work, and every jar of milk that leaves it is a reflection of that dedication.

Join Our Herdshare

Colorado's legal path to fresh, raw, real milk — and your direct connection to our herd in Sheridan Lake.

What Is a Raw Milk Herdshare?

In the State of Colorado, the direct sale of raw (unpasteurised) milk is prohibited by law. However, the state does permit herdshare agreements — a legal arrangement that gives consumers a path to enjoy farm-fresh raw milk from a local herd.

When you join the Karisa & Kritters herdshare, you are purchasing a legal ownership share in our dairy herd. As a part-owner of the cows, you are entitled to a weekly portion of the milk those cows produce. We do not sell raw milk. We sell herd shares — and we board, care for, and milk your cows on your behalf.

This model has deep roots in American agricultural history. Before industrial dairy, families either kept their own cows or shared ownership of community animals. The herdshare brings that tradition into the modern era, allowing busy families to access the benefits of farm-fresh dairy without owning land or livestock themselves.

Every herdshare member receives: a formal herdshare agreement, a boarding fee schedule, and access to fresh, cream-top A2A2 raw milk in half-gallon glass jars at one of our five SE Colorado drop locations each week. You can also visit the farm by appointment to meet your cows in person — we genuinely encourage it.

Joining our herdshare is simple, transparent, and deeply rewarding. You're not just buying milk — you're investing in a farm, supporting a local family, and reclaiming your connection to where food actually comes from.

Our Milk, Described

Raw whole milk
A2A2 Certified

Cream-Top Whole Milk

Our signature product — fresh, unhomogenised whole milk with a thick cream layer. Bottled in reusable half-gallon glass jars every week. Rich in natural enzymes, beneficial bacteria, fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K2, and the original A2 beta-casein protein that so many people find easier to digest than conventional A1 milk.

The flavour changes subtly with the seasons as the grass changes — something you'll come to appreciate as a mark of genuinely natural, living food.

Happy cows in pasture

Why A2A2 Matters

Not all milk is created equal — even among raw milk. The difference lies in a protein called beta-casein. There are two variants: A1 and A2. Most modern commercial dairy herds produce predominantly A1 milk, which is the result of a genetic mutation that occurred in cattle thousands of years ago and spread through intensive selective breeding.

A2A2 milk contains only the A2 beta-casein protein — the original form that humans evolved alongside. Research and widespread anecdotal evidence suggest that many people who experience discomfort with conventional dairy — symptoms often misattributed to lactose intolerance — may actually be reacting to the A1 protein and the way it breaks down during digestion.

At Karisa & Kritters, every cow in our herd is DNA-tested and certified A2A2 before she ever joins us. This isn't a marketing label — it's a commitment we made at the foundation of this farm and will never compromise on. Your milk is as close to the original as it gets.

Combined with the fact that our milk is also raw (retaining all its natural enzymes, immunoglobulins, and beneficial microflora), many of our members report remarkable improvements in how they feel after switching — especially those who had previously avoided dairy altogether.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is raw milk legal in Colorado? +

Yes — through a herdshare agreement. Colorado law prohibits the direct sale of raw milk, but allows consumers to obtain raw milk from cows they legally co-own. Our herdshare agreement creates that legal co-ownership. We do not sell raw milk; we board and care for your co-owned animals and provide your weekly milk as the produce of that ownership.

How much does a herdshare cost? +

Pricing involves a one-time share purchase fee plus a weekly boarding fee that covers the cost of feeding, caring for, and milking your cows. Please contact us directly at 720-274-6569 or allin@karisakritters.us for current pricing — we want to make sure we match you to the right share size and drop location before discussing specific rates.

What size shares are available? +

We currently offer half-gallon weekly shares, bottled in reusable glass jars. Depending on season and herd capacity, we may offer gallon shares or the ability to purchase multiple half-gallon shares. Reach out to us to discuss what's available and what works best for your household.

How do I handle and store raw milk? +

Raw milk should be kept refrigerated at all times, ideally at 35–38°F. When handled properly, it typically stays fresh for 7–10 days. Keep it in its glass jar with the lid tightly sealed, away from strong odours. Shake or stir gently before pouring, as the cream naturally separates and rises to the top — that's a sign of quality, not a problem!

Can I pause or cancel my herdshare? +

We understand life happens. Contact us as early as possible if you need to pause your weekly share — we will always work with you. Cancellation terms are outlined in the herdshare agreement, but we pride ourselves on being human and flexible with members who communicate openly with us.

Drop Day Guidelines

We want every pickup to be smooth and stress-free. Here are a few things to keep in mind when collecting your weekly share.

Bring Your Empties

Please return clean glass jars each week when you collect your fresh share. Our reusable glass system depends on everyone participating — it keeps costs down and waste out of landfills.

Be On Time

Drop windows are typically 30–60 minutes long. We do our best to accommodate, but milk left uncollected may need to be held or returned to the farm. We'll always try to make arrangements if you let us know in advance.

Keep It Cold

Bring a small cooler or insulated bag to keep your milk at the right temperature on the drive home. Raw milk is a living product and should be refrigerated as soon as possible after pickup.

Communicate

If you need to skip a week, please let us know by Thursday of the previous week. This helps us plan production and avoid waste. A quick text to 720-274-6569 is all it takes.
